SANTA
FE, NEW MEXICO
The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture is a 31,000 square foot passively
conditioned and daylit building housing exhibits, a theater, food
service and dining, administration, education and storage spaces.
Special design strategies were developed for the control of ultra-violet
daylight in exhibit spaces. The master plan for the site linked three
museums, a future repository and support facilities through the development
of a central plaza. The entry to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture
was located to create a strong axial and visual relationship with
the entry to the Museum of International Folk Art encouraging visitor
movement between buildings. The programming and design phases were
a collaborative effort between the architects and representatives
from the American Indian community, museum staff and government agencies.
